ILLINOIS STATE FASHION SHOW

May 9, 2016

For those of you who missed it or are interested in seeing my work. Here are photos from the Illinois State Fashion Show where I designed and made five garments. I also was Fashion Show Modeling director and designed all the graphics for the show. It was an amazing experience that I will take with me throughout my professional career.

WEEK 12: ONLINE SHOPPING

Apr 17, 2016

This past week has been one of the busiest weeks of my life. Preparing for the fashion show has been taking up all of my time. Although I've been busy, I still managed to spend money on clothes. With the fashion show this Friday, I went on a search for the perfect dress to wear to the show. Since I had little time to actually go out and shop, it was convenient for me just to online shop.

One of my favorite places to online shop is ASOS. I like their style of clothes because they are unique twist to what's trending. I found a dress that I fell in love with online and knew I had to buy it for the show. While I was browsing I also noticed there was a sale going on too so I had to of course check that out too. I may have splurged a little bit on clothes this week, but they were all items I thought I needed - not just buying to buy.

Overall, I think I have made a lot better shopping decisions since I started the sabbatical. I hope to take this skill along with me throughout my life.

WEEK 11: MY FIRST BUY IN MONTHS

Apr 10, 2016

This past week I stayed pretty consistent throughout my sabbatical and didn't buy any new clothing - mostly because I'm so busy.

WEEK 10: REVISITING SHOPPING

Apr 3, 2016

Hello long lost friend. My freedom to shop is officially back and the sabbatical is over. To my surprise, even with my eagerness to spend money on clothes, I didn't spend a dime on shopping. To say I am busy right now would be an understatement. I'm investing all my time at work, school, and creating my designs for the fashion show, that even though I could shop again, I didn't have the time to actually shop!

WEEK 9: GETTING CREATIVE WITH MY CLOTHES

Mar 27, 2016

This week I had the extreme urge to shop.  My list of things that I really want have been adding up. My workout sneakers have holes in them, and with this sabbatical, I've been pushing the limit for their wear way past the acceptable stage of wearability. Definitely will be one of the first things I buy when the shopping sabbatical is over.

WEEK 8: SHOPLESS STEADY STREAK

Mar 20, 2016

It's week eight of my shopping sabbatical and I am yet to break my shopless streak. I think once I officially told myself no more buying clothes, it's stuck in my head whenever I want to shop.

WEEK 6 - 7: SPRING BREAK BLUES

Mar 13, 2016

This past week was Spring Break and while most of my classmates spent their break laying out at the beach, I spent my time working and sewing my looks for the fashion show. Although I am bummed I didn't get to go somewhere other than Illinois, I was productive this week and made the most of my break.

WEEK FIVE: SHMATICAL SABBATICAL

Feb 28, 2016

Week five and my shop-less streak is still going strong. My main focus right now has been preparing for the fashion show. I've been spending my time and money on constructing my garments for my collection so I have had little time to shop for clothes.

WEEK FOUR: LIFE W/O NEW CLOTHES

Feb 21, 2016

I officially am on my shopping sabbatical and haven't bought any new clothes in weeks. It has been relatively easy considering I have been broke since the start of the semester, but there have definitely been some challenges.

WEEK THREE: POOR COLLEGE GIRL

Feb 14, 2016

As this is my first semester of college ever not having a part-time job, I am truly understanding the meaning of "bang for you buck" and the value of a dollar. Buying clothing has literally been the last thing on my mind this week. Lately to manage my money better, I write lists of the things I want and need. Slowly and slowly, I cross off items on my list as I realize I can probably live without them.

WEEK TWO: VINTAGE TEMPTATION

Feb 7, 2016

Recently, I have been completely uninspired by my clothes. I try to pride myself in thinking more "out of the box" when it comes to my outfits, but lately, I have been in a complete style rut. I often get inspiration from pinterest, magazines, street style, and bloggers. After a stressful week, the typical routine was just not cutting it. In a moment of weakness I caved and went thrift shopping at the local Goodwill store.

THE GIFT OF TRAVEL

Feb 4, 2016

As most of you know, last semester I spent four months studying abroad in Florence, Italy where I had some of the best moments of my life. Not only did I get the chance to immerse myself in the Italian culture, but I also was able to travel around Europe. I explored different cultures and tried new things - things I never could have ever imagined I would be able to do.

SHOPPING SABBATICAL: ENTRY ONE

Jan 28, 2016

During the next 3 months I will be participating in a shopping sabbatical for my Economics of Fashion class. I will be sharing my experiences and challenges on my blog along the way.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY

Jan 26, 2016

While studying abroad in Italy I had the privilege of taking a fashion photography class at my school in Florence. I gained a lot of photography knowledge and even got the opportunity to take pictures of my friends in the studio. I really enjoy being in front of a camera, but after this class, I am learning that I like to be behind it too. Here are some of my favorite photos from my final portfolio.
